Let's see our design journey

Problem

Deeper problem is: without understanding the logic behind math, students rely on memorization instead of reasoning. Math Master bridges this gap by showing why math works, making abstract ideas visible, interactive, and fun.

Elif, a student tries to apply her teacher’s tip: “To multiply by 5, first multiply by 10, then divide by 2.” She follows the rule correctly but gets stuck — why multiply by 10 first, and why divide by 2?

First Demo

After creating the first playable demo, we conducted an initial playtest session to observe how players interacted with the core mechanics and flow. The goal was to validate our early design assumptions and identify potential usability or engagement issues.

User Feedback & Solutions

During this session, we gathered valuable feedback on the gameplay experience, visual clarity, and overall user motivation. These insights helped us refine the next iteration of the game and informed several design adjustments to improve player understanding and engagement.

User 1
She, 9-year-old girl, was focused on finding the correct answer but hesitated to use the Hint button. Although she wasn’t fully confident with the math content, she preferred to spend extra time trying instead of asking for help.

  • Insight: The player needs encouragement to see the Hint feature as a strategic tool, not as failure.

  • Goal: Help players build healthy problem-solving habits and reduce hesitation to use hints.

  • Solution: Introduce a gentle timer and reinforce that using hints is part of smart strategy, not a penalty.

User 2
He, 9-year-old boy, was familiar with mobile games and highly engaged with solving equations. However, he mentioned that the rewards felt too low, which reduced his motivation.

  • Insight: Players are motivated by visible progress and meaningful rewards.

  • Solution: Plan to enhance gamification elements (badges, levels, celebrations) in future iterations.

User 3,4,5

All three players expressed moments of boredom during repetition-heavy sections.

  • Insight: Visual feedback and interactive animations can improve engagement.

  • Next Steps: In the next iteration, we added more visual elements to improve flow and excitement. Additional gamification features are planned for a future MVP release with high-priority items.
